People
People living in a high care home need a great deal of support and Autumn Care provides a caring and fulfiling environment to live in. A large part of our care is in everyday tasks such as meals, bathing and health services. Just as importantly, our goal is to bring normal daily activities to our residents including games groups, listening to music, excercise groups, excursions and entertainers.
Dining
Meals, designed for older people and approved by a dietician, are
cooked onsite in our kitchens.
Activities
Organised activities are an important part of life with Autumn Care and
each home has an activities coordinator. Daily activities may include
working on crosswords (using a large whiteboard), newspaper discussion
groups, books (we have access to a large print library of books),
listening to music and news on the radio which is piped into communal
living rooms, and exercise groups run by a physiotherapist.
Entertainment
One of our goals is to bring the outside world to our residents.
Entertainers – pianists, dancers, singers – visit the homes, as do
visiting exhibitions from the past (for instance, of fashions) which
are provided by an organisation called Sharing Yesterday. We also
encourage visits from local schools and volunteers able to spend time
with residents, reading and talking.
Excursions
Excursions take place from time to time. Residents of St Leigh’s
recently visited the Ricketts Point Nature Reserve in Beaumaris while
Sherbrooke organised a trip to Badger Weir Park in the Yarra Ranges
National Park.
Health Care
Health professionals – doctors as well as audiologists,
physiotherapists, podiatrists, optometrists and speech therapists –
regularly visit our homes to attend to resident needs.
